Chitta Lagi Amavasya

Chitalagi or Chitaou Amavasya is one such  festival of Odisha  which falls on the new-moon day of the Sravana (August). On this day, in the temple of Jagannath, the deity bears a golden mark (Chita) on the forehead. A special variety of rice-cake known as ‘ Chitou Pitha ’ is given to the deity as food-offering. This variety is also prepared in every household of the Oriyas of the coastal districts. Chitalagi Amavasya is observed in the Shraban or Shravan month in Orissa. Chitalagi Amabasya is associated with the Jagannath worship in this eastern state of India. On the Chitalagi Amavasya day, a special ritual is held at Puri Jagannath temple. Akshay Tritiya is the inception day of building chariots, Taldwaja, Darpadalan & Nandighosh. On this day permission for building chariots are taken from deities by bringing the wear flower garlands of deities. Also due to Summer season heavy heat, chalanti pratima of lord Jagannath Sri Madan Mohan, came out of temple along with Panchu Pandav and Lord Mahadev (Loknath) to enjoy 21 days water play fest well known as "CHAAPA". In the event deities came out of temple spent some time with Pandav and Sri Loknath in stone made bath tubs, with water full of chandan and attar. After bath deities wipe off, and make a circular round of the biggest pond known as Narendra Puskarani sitting on wooden decorative boats, covering front face of Hans (Swan).
