Chitta Lagi Amavasya
Chitalagi or Chitaou Amavasya is one such festival of Odisha which falls on the new-moon day of the Sravana (August). On this day, in the temple of Jagannath, the deity bears a golden mark (Chita) on the forehead. A special variety of rice-cake known as ‘ Chitou Pitha ’ is given to the deity as food-offering. This variety is also prepared in every household of the Oriyas of the coastal districts. Chitalagi Amavasya is observed in the Shraban or Shravan month in Orissa. Chitalagi Amabasya is associated with the Jagannath worship in this eastern state of India. On the Chitalagi Amavasya day, a special ritual is held at Puri Jagannath temple.
